GoPro enables underwater livestreaming to 300ft with CamDo Solutions

GoPro, a manufacturer of action cameras, faced the challenge of how to use its HERO4 cameras for underwater livestreaming, as the camera's built-in WiFi signal cannot transmit through more than a few inches of water. To overcome this, they partnered with vendor CamDo Solutions and utilized its Underwater WiFi Cable product.

The solution implemented by CamDo Solutions was an underwater cable that extends the GoPro's WiFi signal to the surface, allowing an iPhone to safely connect and broadcast the feed via the Periscope app. This enabled reliable, high-definition underwater livestreaming from depths of up to 60 meters. As a result, GoPro successfully demonstrated this new capability by livestreaming a live shark dive, providing a measurable impact by proving the system's functionality in an extreme real-world application.
