Wisper ISP, a St. Louis–area WISP grown to over 4,300 subscribers, faced the need to upgrade backbone and backhaul capacity to meet rising residential and enterprise demand while keeping costs and staff training minimal. To support 154 broadcast locations and make use of excess tower capacity, Wisper turned to Cambium Networks and its family of PTP and PMP wireless broadband products, seeking a reliable, high-throughput, easy-to-deploy solution.

Cambium Networks supplied a cost-effective PTP 250 5.8 GHz backhaul deployed over a 2.2-mile LOS spur off Wisper’s core (complementing their PTP 800 core), delivering up to 124 Mbps one-way throughput and supporting roughly 800 clients on that spur. The PTP 250 fit the budget, proved extremely reliable, required virtually no learning curve for staff, and enabled Wisper to offer faster, more economical services—prompting plans to deploy additional Cambium PTP 250, PTP 300, and PTP 800 systems.
