Wisper ISP - Customer Case Study

Wisper ISP, a wireless ISP serving about 10,000 business and residential subscribers across Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas, was experiencing latency and throughput degradation as more customers were added—especially in near-line-of-sight (nLOS) and 2.4 GHz conditions—and their existing GPS/synchronization and radios could not scale beyond roughly 20–30 subscribers per access point. Through integrator Convergence Technologies, Wisper tested Cambium Networks’ ePMP 1000 Access Points and Subscriber Modules to find a more stable, scalable solution.

Cambium Networks helped Wisper deploy ePMP with features like ATPC, uplink/downlink controls, GPS synchronization, eDetect/eAlign and a time-based “Air Fairness” scheduler. The result was immediate: downlink speeds improved 20–50%, uplink speeds rose up to 200%, all 30 trial subscribers saw better service, and Wisper could serve the same 30 customers on two channels instead of four while ePMP supports up to 120 subscribers per AP—delivering lower latency, better throughput consistency, and more efficient spectrum reuse.
