Case Study: Western Downs Regional Council achieves improved public safety and a scalable, low‑cost wireless CCTV system with Cambium Networks

A Cambium Networks Case Study

Preview of the Western Downs Regional Council Case Study

Western Downs in Australia deployed video surveillance with wireless broadband infrastructure to reduce crime

Western Downs Regional Council, which manages services across 38,039 km² in Queensland, faced recurring anti‑social behaviour hotspots in the town of Tara (near the library, hotel, bank, skate park and Lagoon) and needed a CCTV system to provide clear footage for the Queensland Police Service. The Council worked with Cambium Networks to deliver a wireless IP CCTV solution, deploying Cambium equipment including PMP 320 Subscriber Modules and PTP 500 radios along with Wireless Manager, Link Planner and Broadband Planner tools.

Cambium Networks implemented five remote monitoring sites across Tara (some with no line of sight), each using a licensed 3.6 GHz PMP 320 subscriber module and complementary 5.8 GHz PTP 500 links and management software. The result is a robust, flexible system that can expand rapidly without significant capital expense, has measurably increased public perceptions of safety, gives businesses extra protection, and provides high‑quality footage that the police can easily extract to investigate street offences.
