A Cambium Networks Case Study
Wacken Open Air, the world’s largest heavy‑metal festival with over 80,000 visitors annually, required a temporary, high‑capacity Wi‑Fi network that could adapt to rapidly changing site conditions and withstand harsh outdoor weather while delivering very high data volumes—especially in the press area (up to ~2 TB/day). Business IT Kiel, which has managed the festival Wi‑Fi for 21 years, chose Cambium Networks equipment (XV3‑8, XV2‑2T, XV2‑23T access points and V5000/V2000/V1000 60 GHz fixed wireless) for its centralized dashboard, easy management and reliability.
Cambium Networks’ deployment provided flexible, weather‑resilient coverage and centralized monitoring, supporting reliable connections across press, sponsor, VIP and artist areas; the press area saw up to 220 simultaneous users and the wider Wacken United area up to 500 concurrent clients. The network carried 2.8 TB uploaded and 1 TB downloaded in a single day and sustained 55 Mbit/s download speeds with roughly 500 active clients, demonstrating the performance and stability Cambium Networks delivered.
