The Jockey Club Races Out of the Stalls With Xirrus Wi-Fi Network at Cheltenham Festival

The Jockey Club needed a reliable, high‑density Wi‑Fi solution for Cheltenham Racecourse— a 67,500‑capacity venue hosting the four‑day 2014 Cheltenham Festival that attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators. To engage fans, members, staff, sponsors and media (and support sponsor‑specific services like William Hill’s betting apps) The Jockey Club turned to Cambium Networks’ Xirrus Wi‑Fi platform to address coverage, capacity and mobility challenges.

Cambium Networks’ Xirrus deployment (190 high‑capacity APs with directional antennas and Xirrus management/Application Control) was integrated by eircom Business with UCOPIA and Sceptre for access, analytics and cabling, plus careful RF tuning to provide sponsor SSIDs and retail connectivity. The network saw up to 50,000 users over four days, a peak of 19,022 active sessions, 2,500 simultaneous devices (with capacity for 20,000), and over 3,000 daily landing‑page registrations — delivering reliable connectivity, improved sponsor services and actionable user data for The Jockey Club.
