Super Connectivity for Emergency Health Care at Super Bowl XLVIII

Hackensack University Medical Center (HackensackUMC), the official medical services provider for Super Bowl XLVIII, needed secure, high‑speed, low‑latency connectivity between its NJ‑MSED mobile emergency department at MetLife Stadium and the main hospital to support EMR access, digital x‑ray transfer, EKG routing, VoIP, telemedicine and drug‑dispensing systems in a radio‑congested event environment.

Cambium Networks provided the connectivity solution using PTP 650 radios (deployed in a two‑hop configuration and planned with Cambium’s LINKPlanner, implemented by PierCon Solutions). The links delivered line‑of‑sight connectivity over 4.7 miles, ~197–201 Mbps aggregate throughput, AES‑256 encryption and essentially 100% availability during the event, enabling real‑time EMR use, HD video conferencing, x‑ray/EKG transfers and VoIP—eliminating paper charts and maintaining full hospital‑level capabilities in the field.
