St. Bede’s College Supports Innovative Learning Programs With Xirrus Wi-Fi Network

St. Bede’s College, a Catholic secondary school in Melbourne with 1,550 students and 180 staff, needed fast, reliable high‑density Wi‑Fi to support 1:1 computing, multiple devices per user, streaming video, and campus surveillance. After evaluating options, the school selected Cambium Networks’ Xirrus Wi‑Fi solution (including Xirrus APs, Xirrus Management System and Application Control) to meet those requirements.

Cambium Networks deployed multi‑radio Xirrus APs (each acting as its own controller), XMS and Application Control to deliver consistent 5 GHz connectivity across classrooms and offices. The network sustained simultaneous streaming and a successful NASA video conference, allows administrators to view feeds from more than 40 surveillance cameras on mobile devices, helps staff locate misplaced devices about twice a month, eliminated the need for a centralized controller (saving cost), and has operated reliably for five years—enabling St. Bede’s to fully implement 1:1 computing and boost STEM and digital learning outcomes.
