Scorch Communications - Customer Case Study

Scorch Communications, a broadband provider in Canterbury, New Zealand, was running a dense site on limited RF spectrum and facing customer issues during peak video streaming and VoIP use. Having already invested in a Cambium Networks PMP 450 network, Scorch needed to increase capacity within the same 20 MHz channel without replacing subscriber equipment or acquiring more spectrum.

Cambium Networks delivered a PMP 450m AP with cnMedusa Massive MU‑MIMO (interoperable with existing PMP 450 Subscriber Modules) and used LINKPlanner to plan the migration. A single PMP 450m trial replaced the old AP and yielded a roughly 3× throughput improvement (predicted mean 63.83 Mbps; field peaks ~60 Mbps over 24 hours) while servicing 55 customers, reduced packet discards to about 0.5% over 40 days, maintained VoIP quality, and enabled higher subscriber density and site expansion within the same 20 MHz channel.
