Salt Lake City Breaks Down Silos to Deliver Public Wi-Fi

Salt Lake City faced the challenge of delivering affordable, reliable public Wi‑Fi across busy community spaces without adding staff to an already stretched IT team. To support its City Connect digital equity initiative and activate hotspots in places like Washington Square, Salt Lake City partnered with Cambium Networks, leveraging Cambium Networks’ fixed wireless and outdoor Wi‑Fi solutions (cnWave 60 GHz nodes, XV2‑2T0 Wi‑Fi 6 access points) and cloud management (cnMaestro).

Cambium Networks implemented a fixed wireless access backbone (cnWave V5000/V1000) with XV2‑2T0 outdoor APs, cnMatrix switches and cnMaestro management to extend fiber and serve large events securely (PCI-compliant). The deployment—active since late 2022—covers eight city blocks, delivers 1 Gbps on the 60 GHz links, achieves five‑9s uptime, and supports hundreds to over 1,000 concurrent users at peak events, while performing reliably in harsh winter conditions.
