Saia Communications - Customer Case Study

Saia Communications, a Buffalo, NY public‑safety communications integrator, was engaged to upgrade Wayne County’s decade‑old wireless backbone that was running out of capacity and operating in crowded 5.8 GHz spectrum. The county needed more throughput, lower latency and migration to the reserved 4.9 GHz public‑safety band to support 9‑1‑1 dispatch, redundant backup, SCADA, simulcast alerts and potential video surveillance — so Saia chose Cambium Networks (PTP 650 plus LINKPlanner and Wireless Manager) to design the replacement.

Saia implemented a Cambium Networks solution by staging and testing PTP 650 links offsite, using LINKPlanner for precise path design and then integrating the links into Cambium’s Wireless Manager for real‑time monitoring. The PTP 650 (4.9–6.05 GHz) delivers up to 450 Mbps of low‑latency throughput; the first 9.849‑mile Brantling–Rose link was modeled at ~24 Mbps aggregate on a 10 MHz channel for immediate service, and after successful validation the remaining seven links were designed, staged and scheduled for rapid deployment, restoring reliable, higher‑capacity public‑safety connectivity.
