A Cambium Networks Case Study
Polk County, Florida’s Joint Communications Support Unit (JCSU) needed to validate emergency communications ahead of hurricane season by testing uplinks, remote video, voice and Wi‑Fi in a remote, heavily forested site. To meet those objectives they evaluated wireless broadband gear from Cambium Networks, including the PTP 650 backhaul, PMP 450i (900 MHz) distribution access and cnPilot R201P Wi‑Fi/voice routers.
Cambium Networks rapidly deployed a complete network—PTP 650 for the backhaul, PMP 450i APs (5 GHz at 20 ft for support trailers and 900 MHz at 40 ft for cameras) and cnPilot R201P units for Wi‑Fi and analog phone service—and met or exceeded all goals. The PTP 650 link came up immediately; the PMP 450i delivered full‑motion video up to 1.5 miles through dense foliage and 1 mile over water; the R201P provided voice where cellular was unavailable; measured performance showed ~5 ms latency with ~79.7 Mbps down and ~93.9 Mbps up, validating rapid, NLoS-ready connectivity for Polk County.
