A Cambium Networks Case Study
Otorohanga District Council in New Zealand needed to expand limited, patchy public WiFi across a tourism-heavy district to better serve local businesses, visitors and the roughly 30% of children with no home Internet — all on a tight rural council budget. Working with Wireless Nation, the Council deployed Cambium Networks equipment, using the ePMP 1000 platform along with LINKPlanner for design and cnMaestro for network management to meet robustness, range and cost requirements.
Cambium Networks’ ePMP 1000 backhaul and access deployment delivered a stable district-wide WiFi service: peak connections reached 200 subscribers with about 50 concurrent users on average, and the system can provide up to 100 Mbps in a 20 MHz channel. The network improved internet access for residents and students, helped increase tourist engagement and local revenue, and is already projecting self-funding via landing-page advertising, with plans to upgrade to ePMP 2000 and cnPilot E500 for further capacity.
