Case Study: OG&E achieves reliable smart-grid communications and remote meter reading with Cambium Networks

A Cambium Networks Case Study

Preview of the OG&E Case Study

OG&E - Customer Case Study

OG&E, a 110‑year‑old utility serving about 30,000 square miles, wanted to avoid building new fossil‑fueled generation and instead manage demand with a smarter grid that gives customers better information and helps control costs. To meet strict requirements for bandwidth, latency and reliability, OG&E partnered with Cambium Networks and deployed Cambium’s PTP 600 links for backhaul and PMP 320 licensed WiMAX for distribution.

Cambium Networks delivered a vendor‑agnostic communications backbone (PTP 600 providing up to 300 Mbps and PMP 320 for access) that operates reliably in extreme heat and bitter winters across OG&E’s territory. The network enabled remote meter reads, register reads and billing from smart meters, and OG&E reports the network “has been performing well” with excellent reliability—supporting their smart‑grid operations and customer billing processes.
