A Cambium Networks Case Study

Preview of the Diocese of Hereford Case Study

Marrying medieval with 21st century to deliver broadband across Hereford

The Diocese of Hereford, covering roughly 1,660 square miles and around 285,000 people, struggled with sparse and unreliable broadband that left many homes and businesses digitally excluded. To address this, Herefordshire-based allpay Broadband enlisted Cambium Networks, using Cambium’s wireless broadband products (PMP 430 Access Points and PTP 500 links) to create an economical, easy-to-deploy solution.

Working with the Diocese’s Common Licence to site antennae on church towers, Cambium Networks delivered a PMP 430/PTP 500-based network with subscriber modules that provides up to 35 Mbps (with an upgrade path to 90 Mbps). Launched in January 2012, the rollout made service available to over 400 churches, currently has 17 access points covering 13 villages, attracted interest from 100+ churches, and won the NextGen Challenge 2012 “Rural Leadership and Community Development” Award.
