Case Study: Aguakan achieves reliable, cost-saving private wireless water utility operations with Cambium Networks

A Cambium Networks Case Study

Preview of the Aguakan Case Study

Improving Water Utility Operations While Reducing Communications Costs

Aguakan, the water utility serving municipalities in Quintana Roo, needed a fast, cost‑effective communications upgrade as Playa del Carmen and nearby cities expanded. The incumbent telco’s leased lines were too expensive and inflexible for the mix of narrowband meter/sensor traffic and broadband office/database/voice needs, so Aguakan engaged Cambium Networks to provide a private wireless solution (ePMP™ 1000, PTP 650, PMP 450).

Cambium Networks implemented an all‑wireless network with PTP backhaul and PMP distribution (using ePMP, PTP 650 and PMP 450 platforms), connecting sensors, pumping stations, wells, offices and customer service centers. The deployment—rolled out in weeks—now includes 17 PTP links and 180 PMP radio modules across Cancun, Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen (later extended to Isla Mujeres), delivered full telemetry, replaced leased lines and analog services, and moved all corporate applications and data onto the network while lowering ongoing costs.
