Case Study: Latrobe City Council achieves citywide high-performance public Wi‑Fi with Cambium Networks

A Cambium Networks Case Study

Preview of the Latrobe City Council Case Study

How Latrobe City Council Revolutionized Public Internet Access

Latrobe City Council, serving South East Victoria, Australia, needed to expand from facility‑only Wi‑Fi to citywide, free public internet under a state government initiative. The council required a long‑range, high‑capacity outdoor network that could use light poles and rooftops to reliably serve residents and visitors. After field testing, Latrobe selected Cambium Networks and its solution stack — including XV2‑2T0 Wi‑Fi 6 Outdoor Access Points, XV2‑2X Wi‑Fi 6 Indoor Access Points, Cambium PTP8xx microwave backhaul and cnMaestro X network management — to meet those needs.

Cambium Networks deployed the solution citywide and demonstrated superior range in trials (Cambium APs delivered effective connectivity over ~300 meters versus ~50 meters for the competitor), resulting in coverage across more than 50 council areas and precincts and supporting roughly 500–2,000 users per day. Using Cambium’s PTP backhaul and cnMaestro X (with RESTful APIs integrated into the council’s Power‑BI reports), the project delivered high‑speed outdoor Wi‑Fi, increased public satisfaction, supported local jobs, and met budget and reporting requirements.
