A Cambium Networks Case Study
The Houston County Board of Education, serving roughly 28,000 K–12 students across 38 campuses, needed a reliable, scalable wireless network to support new cloud-based collaboration and learning management systems and to meet a BYOD goal of one device per student. After mixed-vendor wireless gear left the network unable to scale, the district selected Cambium Networks’ Xirrus solution—deploying Xirrus high-density access points and the Xirrus Management System (XMS)—to deliver a consistent, high-performance Wi‑Fi platform.
Cambium Networks deployed 721 Xirrus access points (more than 2,550 radios), implemented a guest BYOD network and layered security controls, and moved from on‑premises XMS to cloud-based XMS for centralized management. The deployment delivered seamless access to 30+ high‑bandwidth devices per classroom, enabled the district’s BYOD rollout, reduced total device requirements (504 fewer devices), and provided a future‑proof, upgradeable architecture—measurable improvements in capacity, cost of ownership, and manageability.
