Health Care and Education Connectivity for 150 of the Most Remote Villages

Nepal Wireless set out to bring broadband to the most remote Himalayan communities where rugged terrain, high elevations (3,000–5,000 m) and tiny, dispersed populations meant commercial providers would not operate. After an initial 2002 pilot, Nepal Wireless deployed wireless broadband Point-to-Point links from Cambium Networks and built solar-powered relay towers to reach villages accessible only by foot, aiming to improve education, health care and local e‑commerce.

Cambium Networks supplied the core PTP backhaul and PMP access radios—about 80 PTP links and 60 PMP base stations, with the longest PTP link at 59 km—enabling a network that now serves 150 remote villages. The Cambium Networks equipment proved highly reliable and low‑maintenance in harsh conditions, delivering low latency for video and conferencing, rapid deployment and scalable connectivity that directly supports schools, clinics, weather stations, surveillance and local businesses.
