Case Study: ION Telecom achieves solar-powered broadband hotspots in Benghazi with Cambium Networks ePMP 1000

A Cambium Networks Case Study

Preview of the ION Telecom Case Study

Economic Growth through Connectivity

ION Telecom is a recently established broadband provider serving Benghazi, Libya (population ~1.5M) with a mission to deliver ecologically clean, solar‑powered connectivity to businesses and residents. Facing a noisy 5 GHz band, extreme heat and rapidly growing demand from the city’s food and commercial sectors, ION Telecom selected the ePMP 1000 platform from Cambium Networks to build a resilient, scalable wireless network.

Cambium Networks implemented ePMP 1000 radios and CNS management—leveraging 5.6 GHz with 27 dBm power, GPS Sync and frequency‑resilient technology, plus +60°C‑rated housings—to overcome interference and harsh conditions. The deployment delivered stable links (up to 100 Mbps capacity and ~6 km range, with field reports of a 7 km LOS link performing well in high noise), brought broadband hotspots to restaurants and cafes, boosted local business, and set the stage for a planned tenfold subscriber expansion while using solar power to keep the network environmentally friendly.
