A Cambium Networks Case Study
Defense Electronics reported that the Department of Defense needed a rugged, high‑performance microwave backhaul solution that met strict interoperability and information‑assurance requirements (including FIPS 140‑2 and DoD STIGs) for battlefield, shipboard and remote communications. Cambium Networks’ PTP 600 Series point‑to‑point wireless Ethernet bridges were identified as the candidate product to satisfy those needs for secure, long‑range IP data, voice and video backhaul.
Cambium Networks undertook a two‑year development and testing program—adding features such as secure NTP, RADIUS authentication, configurable password rules and anti‑tamper measures—and achieved FIPS 140‑2 Level 2 validation and UC APL certification via JITC testing. The result: the PTP 600 became the first UC‑APL‑certified microwave backhaul solution for DoD, enabling enterprise purchase and deployment across agencies; the platform delivers up to 300 Mb/s to 124 miles, 167–199 dB system gain, IP66/67 and 202 mph wind rating, and has been widely deployed for tactical, ship‑to‑shore, LMR and LTE/WiMAX backhaul.
