A Cambium Networks Case Study

Preview of the NEWWIS Case Study

Connecting the Peninsula And Beyond

NEWWIS, the first commercial Internet business in Door County, Wisconsin, faced the challenge of providing reliable high-speed connectivity across a rural peninsula and to Washington Island after a nearby provider shut down and left customers stranded. NEWWIS needed a rapidly deployable, high-bandwidth wireless solution able to shoot over water, and turned to Cambium Networks, deploying Cambium PMP 100 series access equipment and a PTP 500 backhaul link.

Using Cambium Networks gear, NEWWIS built an access network from two tower locations (expanding to 30 access point transmitters) and added a PTP 500 backhaul to reach Washington Island, delivering up to 10 Mbps throughput with low latency. The Cambium Networks solution now serves more than 1,000 subscribers, outperforms satellite alternatives, handles peak summer demand and harsh winters, and enabled NEWWIS to rapidly restore and expand broadband service in the region.
