Case Study: Journal Broadcast Group achieves 99.999% uptime and 100+ Mbps Last Link broadcast connectivity with Cambium Networks

A Cambium Networks Case Study

Connect Radio Listeners With Wireless Last Link Broadcast

Journal Broadcast Group, which owns 35 radio and 14 television stations, needed a fail-safe Last Link Broadcast solution to replace low-bandwidth T1/950 MHz studio-to-tower links after FCC Part 101 changes. They required a 100 Mbps+ full-duplex link to carry multiple HD channels without any downtime for listeners or advertisers, and selected Cambium Networks’ PTP 800 licensed microwave solution (modeled with Cambium’s Link Planner) for the pilot in Omaha, Nebraska.

Cambium Networks, working with partner Double Radius, deployed PTP 800 Part 101 11 GHz links with modeled reliability better than 99.999% and optional 1+1 redundant antennas. The Cambium Networks solution has performed flawlessly, provides spare bandwidth for offsite backups and video surveillance, gives Journal Broadcast Group ownership of their network, and delivers an expected payback of about three years versus ~$1,600/month leased lines, with plans to roll out similar deployments in other markets.
