Cambium Networks cnMedusa™ Technology Offers Maximum Performance during Peak Demand

Pixius Communications, a long‑time wireless ISP serving Kansas and Missouri, faced severe capacity constraints as video traffic surged and nightly frame utilizations approached 95% on dual PMP 450 radios. To relieve congested sectors and enable higher customer rate plans, Pixius evaluated Cambium Networks’ PMP 450m cnMedusa technology to determine whether a single AP could exceed the capacity of their existing dual‑radio PMP 450 deployments.

Pixius deployed a single Cambium Networks PMP 450m access point to service ~109–113 subscribers and removed rate limits to find the platform’s ceiling; the AP delivered peak downloads up to 118 Mbps and Cambium reports PMP 450m throughput of more than 400 Mbps in a 20 MHz channel. The upgrade produced roughly 4× the spectral efficiency versus the legacy PMP 450 (40 bps/Hz vs 10 bps/Hz), exceeded the 2× capacity target, and convinced Pixius to roll out PMP 450m across additional towers to offer larger rate plans and grow revenue.
