Bedford NHS Ushers in the Hospital of the Future With Xirrus Wi-Fi

Bedford Hospital NHS Trust, a 400‑bed acute district general hospital serving over 270,000 people with more than 2,000 staff, needed a secure, low‑impact wireless solution to support BYOD, clinician mobility and third‑party access across its Victorian, listed buildings. The trust selected Xirrus Wi‑Fi access points from Cambium Networks to minimize cabling and disruption while providing segmented networks for staff, patients and visiting agencies.

Cambium Networks deployed the Xirrus solution in just two months, using fewer APs and VLAN segmentation (public/patient, employee, third‑party) to deliver secure 2.4/5 GHz coverage across the site. The rollout enabled clinicians to access ePMA, pathology results and x‑rays during ward rounds, supported paperless meetings and faster third‑party actions, reduced cabling and installation impact, and improved mobility and workflow efficiency across the hospital.
