450m Beats Growing Customer Demand

Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative (GVEC) is a rural electric utility and ISP serving about 3,500 square miles and more than 10,000 subscribers, adding hundreds more each month. Rising device counts and heavy streaming demand were pushing the limits of their wireless network—previously built on Cambium Networks PMP 450i gear (~125 Mbps per sector)—so GVEC sought a higher‑capacity wireless broadband solution.

GVEC trialed Cambium Networks’ PMP 450m (cnMedusa Massive MU‑MIMO) on a congested tower; the AP interoperated with existing PMP 450 subscriber modules so no customer visits were required. The 450m supported 126 subscribers on 25/5 Mbps plans and consistently delivered 138 Mbps in a 20 MHz channel, eliminated peak‑time complaints, and proved scalable enough that GVEC plans network‑wide deployment to offer higher service tiers.
