United States Census Bureau reduces paper map handling with Caliper Corporation for the 2010 Census

The United States Census Bureau required a complete and accurate address list and geographic data to conduct the 2010 decennial Census. To meet this challenge, the Bureau partnered with Caliper Corporation to implement a solution based on the Maptitude mapping software.

Caliper Corporation developed the MAF/TIGER Partnership Software (MTPS), a Maptitude-based solution that enabled over 40,000 government entities to validate and update geographic data. This process improved accuracy, reduced the use of paper maps, and streamlined operations. The resulting data was critical for congressional redistricting and the allocation of over $400 billion annually in federal funds. Caliper also provided specialized tools for transportation planning, which were used to model future infrastructure and economic development scenarios.
