United States Census Bureau - Customer Case Study

The United States Census Bureau needed a complete, up-to-date address list and accurate geographic boundaries to conduct the 2010 decennial Census and collect transportation data. To meet that challenge the Bureau implemented a Maptitude-based solution from Caliper — the MAF/TIGER Partnership Software (MTPS) — combining the Master Address File (MAF) and TIGER maps and giving thousands of jurisdictions a way to submit geographic updates.

Caliper delivered MTPS, browser and mobile web apps, and additional software for MPOs and state DOTs to delineate Traffic Analysis Zones (TAZs) and integrate them into TIGER; over 40,000 state, local, and tribal governments accessed the tools. The Caliper solution cut paper-map production and processing time, improved Census geographic accuracy used for redistricting and federal funding formulas (which help allocate more than $400 billion annually), and produced TAZs used in CTPP tabulations and transportation planning.
