Calero-MDSL solutions bring added control and visibility to George Washington University

The George Washington University, the largest higher-education institution in Washington, D.C., struggled with fragmented telecom billing and chargeback processes across multiple campuses. Financial services lacked the specialist telecom context to interpret invoices, leading to discrepancies and limited visibility. To address this, GW selected Calero (Calero‑MDSL) to provide hosted invoice management along with Calero‑MDSL Expense Management, Telecommunications Management and Usage Management to gain the granularity and control it needed.

Calero implemented a hosted suite and managed services that consolidated third‑party bills, provided exception reporting, and delivered departmental-level visibility into assets and usage (data jacks, wireless access points, voice lines, etc.). The solution enabled GW to reallocate invoice-processing staff to finance the implementation, centralize reporting for chargebacks, detect unregistered devices and billing variances, and improve operational efficiency and fraud detection—giving the university clearer, authoritative control over its telecom environment.
