University of Salford Achieving smoother operations across a vast university estate with CAFM Explorer

University of Salford, a 20,000‑student campus spread over 60 acres with 31 buildings and the Castle Irwell Student Village, faced growing difficulty coordinating maintenance and compliance across a large, complex estate and supporting a 350‑strong estates team. To tighten control and improve operations they adopted CAFM Explorer (Idox’s facilities management software) as a single, reliable system to manage estate activities.

CAFM Explorer centralised planned and preventative maintenance, a reactive helpdesk, a student self-service portal, stock control and room/resource bookings, and consolidated building drawings and maintenance history. Over more than 25 years the solution has managed around 157,000 m², handled upwards of 1,400 helpdesk requests a month and monitored about 1,500 warehouse items—delivering faster reactive repairs, better visibility and more cost‑effective use of space for the University of Salford.
