Volkswagen AG - Customer Case Study

Volkswagen AG faced the challenge of reducing fuel consumption and NOx emissions in turbocharged direct‑injection diesel engines while maintaining high performance. To address this, Volkswagen used CAESES together with 3D‑CFD simulation tools for piston bowl geometry optimization, employing CAESES’ parametric models and software connector to generate variants while keeping the compression volume constant.

CAESES implemented an automated optimization loop—varying piston bowl geometry parametrically, exporting variants to CFD, and using an optimizer to feed improved parameters back into CAESES. The resulting bowl shapes delivered measurable improvements in fuel consumption and reduced raw emissions, demonstrating CAESES’ ability to produce robust, higher‑performing combustion geometries for Volkswagen AG.
