A CAESES Case Study
Rolls-Royce Deutschland, a part of the global aero engine leader Rolls-Royce, faced the challenge of accelerating the time-intensive process of optimizing compressor blade designs to reduce emissions and fuel consumption. Their existing method required weeks to optimize a single blade section, involving numerous iterations between geometry and flow analysis. To address this, they partnered with the vendor CAESES and its advanced parametric 3D modeling capabilities.
The solution implemented by CAESES was a new method for the direct generation and variation of 3D blade geometry, which drastically reduced the number of defining parameters while ensuring smooth, high-quality shapes. This approach accelerated the design cycle from several weeks to between 1 and 5 days. The results achieved included a 0.25% reduction in stage losses, an expanded working range, and the creation of smoother blade geometries that are more advantageous for manufacturing and stress.
