Rolls Royce - Customer Case Study

Rolls Royce faced a need to optimize axial compressor blades to help meet stricter emission and fuel-consumption targets; the aerodynamic design process was time‑consuming with many geometry and CFD iterations, and the project specifically aimed to achieve required flow turning and blade loading with minimum losses while extending the off‑design operating range. CAESES was used for geometry modeling and parametric 3D blade creation with integrated CFD to automate and accelerate design exploration.

CAESES implemented a parametric 3D blade model and automated optimization workflow (compared against a 2D‑section-based approach), yielding similar or better aerodynamic performance in a much shorter timeframe. Using CAESES, the study reported a 0.25% reduction in stage losses, a 1.5° wider operating range, design-cycle times reduced to 1–5 days versus several weeks, and increased insight and confidence in the designs.
