A CAESES Case Study
Kongsberg Maritime, a division of the Norwegian technology group KONGSBERG, faced the complex challenge of designing an advanced offshore service vessel (OSV) that required balancing interdependent parameters like stability, resistance, and dynamic positioning performance. The highly multidisciplinary nature of the project, which integrated hydrostatics, seakeeping, and cost modeling, necessitated a holistic and automated workflow to replace inefficient sequential design methods. They turned to CAESES software to address this challenge.
Using CAESES as a central hub, Kongsberg Maritime built a parametric model of the OSV hull and used the platform to orchestrate an automated multi-disciplinary workflow that integrated both internal analyses and external simulation tools. This solution enabled the team to explore hundreds of design variants and identify an optimal concept. The resulting vessel design achieved a roughly 5% reduction in CAPEX through decreased lightship weight, a 6% cut in fuel consumption, and enhanced confidence in operability and performance during heavy-lift operations.
