A CAESES Case Study
DSME needed to maximize the hydrodynamic performance of the 14,000 TEU MSC Danit and turned to CAESES for parametric variation and CFD-driven hull form optimization. Using CAESES®’s Generalized Lackenby approach to generate smooth, controlled shape variations and integrate with CFD workflows, DSME set out to improve wave resistance, propulsion and overall fuel efficiency for the mega-boxer.
CAESES enabled a two‑phase process of parent‑ship recombination and fine parametric tuning, with CFD (SHIPFLOW) evaluations and final model tests at HSVA. The CAESES‑driven optimization delivered more than a 50% reduction in wave resistance versus the baseline, further local gains of up to 8% from lengthening the parallel mid‑body, improved propulsion and more robust wave patterns — yielding higher speed performance, faster automated optimization and lasting fuel‑consumption benefits for DSME.
