A Cadcorp Case Study
Surrey Heath Borough Council needed to modernise its 2009 waste collection contract—moving from weekly black sack collections to fortnightly alternating wheelie bins—while minimising disruption to residents. To plan and implement the change efficiently the council used Cadcorp’s geographical information system alongside Ordnance Survey mapping, oblique aerial photography and the council’s Local Land and Property Gazetteer.
Cadcorp mapped some 35,600 waste collection points, used aerial imagery to assess bin suitability without costly site visits, and generated optimised crew allocation routes and online self‑service data for My Surrey Heath. As a result (with Cadcorp integral to planning and operational delivery) recycling rose from 30% to 65% in one year, service efficiency and contact‑centre responses improved, and the authority was shortlisted for a National Recycling Awards category.
