Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) needed to improve vehicle mobilisation and response modelling while managing tighter budgets and transforming operations. The service identified a key data gap in the OS MasterMap Integrated Transport Network (ITN) — it lacked road-speed information — and commissioned Cadcorp to provide the tools and analytics to produce timely spatial intelligence.

Cadcorp developed an Automated Vehicle Location System that attached four years of incident GPS logs to OS ITN road sections, allowing average speeds to be calculated for each section (and proxy speeds assigned where no history existed). The enhanced ITN layer is now used in turnout modelling and is being extended into scenario and workload modelling, fire cover planning and resilience strategy development, delivering more accurate response-time modelling and better-informed operational planning.
