Northgate Information Solutions, whose software is used by about 95% of UK local authorities, faced duplicated engineering and administration because its Land & Property and Public Protection products had to support multiple “flavours” of spatial integration for different local GIS deployments. To standardise spatial handling across product sets (ILAP, SearchNET and M3) and remove GIS technology as a design driver, Northgate selected Cadcorp and its Cadcorp Spatial Information System (Cadcorp SIS) as the embedded geoprocessing technology.

Northgate embedded Cadcorp SIS in M3 to store geometry alongside textual records in Oracle and SQL Server, import business-critical spatial data and access external maps via OGC WMS/WFS. The Cadcorp solution eliminated multiple product flavours, removed manual data administration, made external datasets immediately available, enabled concurrent‑user licensing, and reduced dependence on corporate GIS — allowing councils to cut cross‑charges, retire redundant GIS, and share maintenance and support savings with customers. Cadcorp’s open‑standards and database geometry support delivered clear operational and cost efficiencies across Northgate’s customer base.
