New Forest District Council - Customer Case Study

New Forest District Council (NFDC), the second largest district council in the UK (173,000 residents across 290 sq miles), faced inconsistent, locally held parish asset data and limited shared access to Ordnance Survey mapping after a change in OS policy. NFDC already used Cadcorp products — Cadcorp SIS desktop licences and the GeognoSIS web mapping engine — but needed a way to provide town and parish councils (TPCs) and residents with centralised, up-to-date spatial information and improved data sharing.

Cadcorp helped NFDC extend its ForestMap intranet into a secure extranet (ExtraForestMap) using GeognoSIS to deliver OS, NFDC and third‑party map layers, centralised capture and maintenance of parish data, and large‑format mapping and support. The Cadcorp solution gave TPCs 24/7 low‑cost access, produced more consistent and accurate spatial data, enabled shared asset information and improved service delivery—allowing residents to find location-specific council information online without needing to contact the councils.
