A Cadcorp Case Study
Midori-net Chiba is the Chiba‑prefecture branch of the national non‑profit Midori‑net, formed to help farmers, land improvement associations and municipalities coordinate scarce farmland, irrigation and drainage in the face of falling output and incomes. To create a shared geographic resource where none existed, MAFF subsidised a project to digitise topographic maps, orthorectified aerial photography and cadastral farmland data; the system that was later deployed uses localised Cadcorp products (Cadcorp GeognoSIS / Cadcorp SIS) as the core geospatial technology.
Informatix implemented desktop GIS and a WebGIS based on Cadcorp technology with a central Microsoft SQL Server repository — several hundred desktop licences were deployed and WebGIS access is available to about 100–200 authorised users. The Cadcorp‑based solution enabled near‑complete capture and sharing of Chiba’s base geographic data, replaced time‑consuming paper/fax workflows, improved asset management of irrigation/drainage, and generated new demand from other agencies (for example forestry); Midori‑net Chiba is already preparing a second phase to extend data sharing and services.
