Case Study: London Borough of Hounslow achieves web-based e-government interoperability with Cadcorp

A Cadcorp Case Study

Preview of the London Borough of Hounslow Case Study

London Borough of Hounslow uses Cadcorp's interoperability features for e-government

The London Borough of Hounslow faced a common e‑government challenge: valuable spatial data locked in many legacy, proprietary formats that prevented a single, authoritative corporate GIS and slowed service delivery. To meet e‑government targets and make geographic information widely available, Hounslow chose Cadcorp and its Cadcorp SIS desktop and Cadcorp GeognoSIS.NET web GIS to avoid time‑consuming data translation and to maximise reuse of existing datasets.

Cadcorp implemented a web‑based corporate GIS that reads and writes over 160 native GIS, CAD, graphic and database formats, links directly to Oracle Spatial and the LLPG, and integrates with the council’s environmental protection and CRM systems. The Cadcorp solution went live in 2005 and is available to up to 3,000 staff and councillors, enabling faster deployment (no extensive reformatting), immediate frontline access to maps and reports, wider departmental data sharing, and more efficient incident handling and decision making.
