Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service - Customer Case Study

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service needed a faster, safer way to share location-specific hazard and risk information with crews en route to incidents without slowing response times. To meet this challenge they adopted a GIS-enabled mobile data approach: 3tc Software’s MODAS mobile application (running on Motorola MW810 rugged in‑cab computers) was developed using Cadcorp’s Spatial Information System developer tools to deliver the right information to crews quickly and simply.

Using Cadcorp’s developer tools, MODAS embeds mapping and location intelligence into the in‑cab workflow, automatically triggered by mobilisation messages over wireless bearers (including resilient Airwave). The system supplies base maps, hydrant and Hazchem data, live GPS positioning and automatic map scaling, and records a time‑stamped audit trail of messages and vehicle progress. The Cadcorp-enabled solution is now deployed on 88 appliances, improving navigation, situational awareness and post‑incident review capability through the recorded mobilisation logs.
