How corporate use of OS MasterMap ® saves time and money and improves efficiency

The London Fire Brigade needed a way to turn vast amounts of incident, performance and risk data into easily interpreted information for staff at all levels. To meet that challenge they selected Cadcorp to deliver a brigade-wide corporate GIS based on Cadcorp SIS desktop software and Cadcorp GeognoSIS.NET (branded internally as IMapping), underpinned by OS MasterMap Topography and ITN layers so maps and address data would be accurate and up to date.

Cadcorp implemented a desktop and Intranet solution that handles over 160 native formats, provides easy web tools for 6,500 potential users and automates the Incident Risk Analysis Toolkit (IRAT) outputs (17 incident-type projections by ward). The system sped map creation dramatically, removed the need for much in-house traffic surveying (saving time and cost), supports isochrone travel‑time analysis for station placement and cross‑border M25 coverage reviews, and receives OS MasterMap change-only updates every three months—delivering measurable time and resource savings while improving planning and decision-making.
