A Cadcorp Case Study
Europe’s Leading Research and Evaluation Centre faced a shortage of tools to model public exposure to electromagnetic fields and to provide transparent, science-based information for planners and the public. Working with French geomatics partner Geomod, the centre developed the MITHRA-REM application for forecasting electromagnetic exposure—an application built on Cadcorp’s Spatial Information System (SIS) to bring GIS-driven input (terrain, buildings, antenna data) into advanced wave propagation models.
Cadcorp’s SIS underpins MITHRA-REM, which combines geometric and physical engines to produce 2D/3D maps, isolines, computation-point outputs and hotspot analyses from detailed building and antenna descriptions. The Brussels environment agency (IBGE-BIM) deployed MITHRA-REM within a year, requiring mobile operators to submit MITHRA-REM simulations as part of permit applications—restarting approvals, enabling verification against the region’s exposure limits (3 V/m, with 1.5 V/m per operator), highlighting hotspots, and informing a move toward denser, lower-power networks.
