Czech Republic - Customer Case Study

The Czech Republic needed a way to comply with recent legislation requiring infrastructure owners and providers to make network information available to land‑use planning authorities (municipalities, ORPs and regions). The challenge was aggregating large, diverse CAD/GIS/raster datasets from utilities, railways and construction organisations and making them securely accessible to multiple stakeholders. Cadcorp technology — specifically Cadcorp GeognoSIS used by partner Hrdlička’s MAWIS map server and the Hrdlička ÚAP service — was chosen to address this need.

Hrdlička deployed the MAWIS map server built on Cadcorp GeognoSIS with an Oracle backend and web portal access, enabling utilities (including ČEZ, E.ON and ČEPS) to publish and share network documentation in multiple formats with controlled access, metadata “passports” and download statistics. The Cadcorp‑based solution centralized data access, made infrastructure layers viewable and downloadable by authorized users, improved land‑use decision making, and gave infrastructure owners and administrators a means to demonstrate and track legal compliance (with initial utility datasets available from autumn 2007 and further networks being added).
