Simpler, Clearer, Faster - An Exemplar Digital Service

The Environment Agency worked with CACI Limited to meet a new EU requirement for waste carriers to register with the agency from January 2014. With paper and phone registrations becoming costly and inefficient, the agency needed a fast, secure digital service that could be delivered in just 11 weeks and meet GDS design and security standards.

CACI Limited helped build an online Waste Carrier Registration service using an agile, open-source approach with cloud hosting, address lookup, ElasticSearch integration, and continuous development. The new service went live on time, passed GDS assessment and IL2 accreditation, and delivered strong results: an average registration time of 3 minutes, over 90% customer satisfaction, only 6% of users needing assisted digital support, and forecast savings of £2-4 million by 2018.
