Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, a large acute hospital trust serving around 500,000 people in Kent and north east Sussex, needed to replace spreadsheet-based costing with a faster, more detailed and reliable approach. To support HRG 4, Foundation Trust ambitions, and greater finance-clinician engagement, the Trust turned to CACI Limited and its Synergy Costing patient level information and costing system.

CACI Limited implemented Synergy Costing to provide timely, accurate patient-level costing, support clinical costing standards, and improve reporting for finance and service lines. The solution improved clinical engagement, data quality, and working relationships across the Trust, while enabling evidence-based cost improvement initiatives; the Trust documented £13 million in cost improvements in 2011 and forecast £1.5 million in savings from service line reporting in 2012-13.
