Enel, one of the world’s largest utilities, was pursuing an enterprise-wide digitalization strategy to improve efficiency, launch new services, and build a digital culture across the organization. Working with C3.ai, Enel targeted two major challenges: detecting electricity theft more effectively and improving predictive maintenance for distribution assets across its vast grid and IoT environment.

C3.ai implemented the C3 AI Suite, including fraud detection and predictive maintenance applications, to unify and analyze data from dozens of sources in near real time. The solution helped Enel deploy four production applications at scale, monitor more than 50 million sensors, and achieve a 2x improvement in identifying unbilled energy, supporting a cumulative digitalization benefit target of €2.5 billion by 2021.
