Case Study: Baltimore Gas and Electric Company achieves $20M annual economic benefit and improved fraud detection with C3 IoT

A C3 IoT Case Study

Preview of the Baltimore Gas Electric Company Case Study

Driving Network Efficiency and Fraud Detection Efforts

Baltimore Gas Electric Company engaged C3 IoT to improve the efficiency and reliability of its advanced metering infrastructure and to detect and reduce unbilled energy across its service territory of two million meters. The challenge was to integrate 12 disparate source systems and deliver analytics and BI across a massive AMI network; C3 IoT deployed C3 AMI Operations™, C3 Revenue Protection™ and C3 Energy Intelligence™ to address these needs.

C3 IoT built the solution on the C3 IoT Platform (with C3 Data Integrator™) running on AWS, completing the rollout in about 28 weeks (≈6 months) with 42 integrations, a 10 TB unified cloud image (35 billion rows), 140 machine‑learning features (650 rules), and daily ingestion of ~8 GB/220M rows. The deployment delivered an annual economic benefit estimated at $20M, achieved 90% accuracy (moving toward 99%), and realized 150% of target business value (~$15.4M to date), demonstrating measurable operational and financial impact.
