Madison Public Library launches Observation Deck with Byte after a 3-year IMLS grant

Madison Public Library, in collaboration with two other libraries, faced the challenge of capturing and sharing the qualitative impact of their hands-on experiential programs, as traditional metrics like attendance data were insufficient. They partnered with Byte Studios to develop a digital toolkit under an IMLS grant that would systematically collect and analyze this qualitative data to demonstrate their value to stakeholders and support continuous improvement.

Byte designed and developed an open-source, web-based toolkit named Observation Deck. The solution included a mobile-first data collection tool and a robust analysis tool, supported by a vibrant and approachable brand identity. The toolkit was successfully launched at major library conferences, generating significant national interest. Byte's work empowered libraries to effectively document their impact, with the goal of establishing a sustainable, affordable subscription model for widespread adoption.
